WBB: HBU Kicks Off Double-Header Against Texas A&M-CC Saturday
HOUSTON, TX- HBU women's basketball kicks off the Saturday double-header in Sharp Gym this weekend when they face off against Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 2:00p.m. The Huskies are coming off a thrilling victory against Incarnate Word that saw multiple lead changes in the final minute with HBU coming out on top 60-59. The Islanders are coming off a narrow loss at home against Abilene Christian by a score of 68-72.
HBU (7-11, 2-6 SLC) defensive effort really kept the Cardinals of Incarnate Word at bay, while the offensive attack was diverse. The Huskies combined for 10 blocks on the night and eight steals. Eight total players scored for the Huskies including two double-digit scoring efforts.
Shannon Jones led the Huskies with 13 points and added five rebounds while coming off the bench.
Sophie Taylor added 12 points of her own.
Takara Wade had a balanced performance scoring seven points and seven rebounds.
Texas A&M Corpus Christi (10-8, 4-3 SLC) has two players averaging double-digit scoring on the season led by Dalesia Booth with 14.1 points and 5.3 rebounds a game. Alexes Bryant is following her with 10.6 points and a team high 6.5 rebounds per game.
HBU will next take a quick trip to face against Stephen F. Austin Feb. 6
th before returning home for a two game home stand against Central Arkansas Feb. 13
th and a rematch against Nicholls Feb. 16
