CHICAGO – HBU freshman safety
Tra Fluellen has been named to the Jerry Rice Award watch list, award coordinator STATS Perform announced Tuesday.
The Jerry Rice Award is given annually to the Most Outstanding Freshman Player in the FCS. Fluellen ranks sixth in the Southland Conference with 8.6 tackles per game and has totaled 77 stops, two interceptions, four pass breakups and two fumble recoveries. The Gilmer, Texas, native has started all nine games, recording double-digit tackles four times, including a season-high 15 in a 53-52 win over South Dakota on Sept. 14. In that game, he also made the game-sealing interception on the Coyotes' final drive.
The watch list, which currently consists of 24 student-athletes, will be pared down to a list of finalists, before the winners are announced in Frisco, Texas, on Jan. 10, 2020, on the eve of the FCS National Championship Game.
