HOUSTON - HBU got off to a fast start against league-leading Stephen F. Austin, but the Ladyjacks rebounded for a 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-17) victory in Southland Conference volleyball Saturday in Sharp Gym.
Junior right side
Ashtyn Richey led the Huskies (15-12, 7-5) with 14 kills. Junior outside hitter
Mikayla Vivens and sophomore outside hitter
Kelly Colwell each recorded a double-double, with Vivens posting 11 kills and 20 digs and Colwell 12 kills and 18 digs. Sophomore middle blocker
Ebonie Ballesteros and junior middle blocker
Megan Patillo each had six kills, with Patillo adding five blocks. Junior setter
Morgan Dewyer dished out 44 assists, with nine digs, while senior libero
Hannah Lewis had 18 digs.
Corin Evans had 20 kills and 16 digs as SFA (24-1, 12-0) won its 29th-straight Southland contest. Danae Daron added nine kills and five blocks, while Xariah Williams chipped in seven kills. Ann Hollas also had seven kills, with 26 assists, 14 digs and four blocks. Madi Miller came up with 26 digs and Ariana Pagan had 13.
SFA hit .174, while holding HBU to a .104 clip. The Huskies outdug the Ladyjacks, 86-79, but were outblocked, 10-8. SFA had five aces to HBU's one.
The Huskies will play its final two home matches of the season next week when they host Central Arkansas Thursday at 6:30 p.m., followed by Northwestern State on Senior Day Saturday at 1 p.m. in Sharp Gym.
