HOUSTON - HBU overcame a slow start to rally past Southeastern Louisiana for a 3-1 (16-25, 28-26, 25-22, 25-11) victory in Southland Conference volleyball Thursday night in Sharp Gym.

Mikayla Vivens each double-doubled for the Huskies (13-11, 5-4 SLC), with Colwell hitting .302 with 16 kills and 14 digs and Vivens posting 14 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore middle blocker

Sam Gomez had 15 kills and Jodi Edo had 12 kills for the Lady Lions (10-13, 4-5). Caroline Golden and Ryan Maddera each chipped in with eight. Edo and Karlee Wilkerson each posted five blocks. Baylee Laskoskie had 42 assists and 10 digs. Lizzy Low led SLU defensively with 21 digs, Golden and Alexis Pratt each had 12 and Jolie Hidalgo added 10.
HBU hit .241 for the match, while SLU hit .211. The Huskies outdug the Lady Lions, 87-79, and outaced them, 5-3. SLU held the advantage in blocks, 8.0-6.0.
SLU scored four-straight points to build a six-point lead in the first. The Lady Lions then pushed the lead to 21-13 and closed out the set with a 25-16 win.
The Lady Lions led by three in the second, but the Huskies scored four-straight points to take an 18-17 lead. Neither team led by more than a point and it was tied, 26-26, when HBU put away the set on back-to-back kills by Vivens and Colwell. There were 19 ties and 19 lead changes in the frame.
The Huskies trailed, 6-4, in the third, but outscored the Lady Lions, 12-4, to take a 16-10 lead. HBU led, 22-16, but SLU rebounded by scoring four in a row to cut the deficit to two. A kill by Ballesteros got the Huskies to set point at 24-21, but the Lady Lions sided out on a kill by Edo. A service error gave HBU a 25-22 set victory.
Back-to-back aces by Dewyer and a block by Ballesteros and Richey started off the fourth set for the Huskies. Leading 8-4, HBU scored six of the next seven points to extend the lead to 14-5. The Huskies led 20-11, then scored the final five points of the match, including a block by Vivens and Patillo on match point for the 25-11 victory.
The Huskies return to action when they host Lamar at 10 a.m. on Homecoming Saturday in Sharp Gym. Fans receive free admission to the volleyball match with a ticket to Saturday afternoon's football game against Southeastern Louisiana.
