WBB: Late Score Lifts Huskies to Win, 60-59
HOUSTON, TEXAS- HBU women's basketball secured a win against Incarnate Word at home Wednesday night in a nail biter that saw two lead changes with under 10 seconds left. After a quick inbound play by the cardinals that saw Lunden Henry make a layup the Huskies called a timeout to draw up a play and advance the ball to half court. HBU inbounded to
Megan Valdez-Crader who made the go-ahead layup in the paint. Imani Robinson tried to get off a buzzer beater shot, but it wasn't able to find the net as the Huskies won 60-59.
HBU (7-11, 2-6 SLC) gets back in the win column with another diverse attack and solid play on the defensive end.
Shannon Jones led the Huskies in scoring with 13 points and five rebounds off of the bench.
Sophie Taylor was the other Husky to score in double digits with 12 points. Takara wade was able to score seven points with seven rebounds and dished out five assists on the night.
Natalia Gwarda got the start after her strong performance last Saturday and recorded eight points, seven rebounds, four blocks, and two assists. The Huskies combined for 10 blocked shots and eight steals on the night.
Incarnate Word (2-17, 2-6 SLC) were led by the inside scoring of Starr Omozee who led all scorers with 18 points and she fell one rebound shy of collecting a double-double. Luden Henry was also one rebound shy of a double-double and had 14 points to go with her nine rebounds. Imani Robinson tacked on six points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
HBU will stay at home to face off against Texas A&M Corpus Christi in a Saturday double-header starting at 2:00p.m. The Huskies will then take a short trip to Stephen F. Austin Feb. 6
