WBB: HBU Set to Battle Nicholls on the Road
THIBODAUX, Louisiana- HBU women's basketball team travels to Thibodaux, Louisiana to face off against the Nicholls Colonels Saturday afternoon in David R. Stopher Gymnasium at 1:00 p.m. HBU is coming off an 83-74 win over New Orleans Jan. 5
th before having a bye earlier this week.
HBU (6-6, 1-1 SLC) currently has four players averaging double-digits in scoring led by senior
Amanda Johnson coming off the bench with 11.9 points per game. HBU's depth and bench scoring has them averaging just over 72 points per game with 28 of those coming from the bench. Sophomore
Megan Valdez-Crader has put a nice two game stretch together scoring 19 points four rebounds and four steals at Lamar and 17 points six rebounds and two assists against New Orleans. Junior
Sophie Taylor followed her up with 17 points five rebounds and six assists against New Orleans.
Nicholls (8-7, 2-1 SLC) is coming off a loss to Stephen F. Austin 62-70. The Colonels are led by four-time Southland player of the week Cassidy Barrios who is currently averaging 20.4 points and 10.9 rebounds a game. Barrios also leads the team in assists, steals, and blocks with 71, 31, and 16 respectively. Previously the Colonels got two home wins to start off Southland Conference play 2-0 before dropping a road contest to Stephen F. Austin.
After the game against Nicholls the Huskies will return home for two games against Abilene Christian Jan. 16
th at 7:00 p.m. on Veterans Appreciation Day and against Sam Houston State Jan. 19
th at 2:00 p.m. on HBU's canned food drive. The Huskies will then return to Louisiana to face off against Southeastern Louisiana and McNeese St. later this month.
