HOUSTON – North Texas scored a pair of goals in the first 14 minutes and kept HBU off the board, downing the Huskies 2-0 on Friday evening at Sorrels Field.

After a lightning delay pushed the start of the game back to 6:45 p.m., it took less than five minutes for UNT (5-1-1) senior Taylor Torres to put the Mean Green on the board on the first shot attempt of the game, knocking in a shot from just outside the keeper's box with an assist from Olivia Klein. Less than nine minutes later, at the 13:05 mark, Torres struck again when she found the net thanks to a loose ball directly in front of the goal. HBU (2-4-0) got its first chance in the 22nd minute as Avery Cortez put a shot on goal that was past the keeper and on its way in when it was cleared by the UNT defense. Just over two minutes later, Jessica Nevils had a one-on-one attempt stopped by the UNT keeper coming out to challenge.

In the second half, the Huskies got just one shot attempt in against a stingy Mean Green defense. That attempt came off the foot of freshman Talin Rizo but again, UNT keeper Kelsey Brann was up to the task, getting her fingertips on the shot from distance and deflecting it just enough to send it off the crossbar.

HBU goalkeeper Alanis Guevara made six saves in the match, three in each half. For the game, UNT held a 19-4 shot advantage with eight shots on goal to the Huskies' three.

The Huskies travel to Austin for a Sunday, Sep. 9, matchup against the No. 18 Texas Longhorns at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field at 5:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Longhorn Network.
