2018-19 HBU Men's Basketball Schedule

HOUSTON – HBU head men's basketball coach Ron Cottrell announced the Huskies' 2018-19 schedule on Tuesday afternoon with the upcoming season's slate featuring 13 home games and trips to face members of the Pac-12, ACC and Big 10.

"First of all, we're excited about starting a new season with a very challenging schedule," said Cottrell. "This year, college basketball is starting a few days earlier, you can start mid-week this year, so we'll open the season on November 7 at the Arizona Wildcats. Obviously, Arizona is a Pac-12 power and then we're excited about starting a couple of new home-and-home series with the likes of Fordham out of the Atlantic 10, which will be a home game this year. Then, we're going to Samford and they'll return to play us at home a year from now. Additionally, we started series last year with UTSA and Texas State and those series will continue this season."

The Huskies open on Nov. 7 against an Arizona team that won the 2017-18 Pac-12 tournament and finished the year with a 27-8 record. HBU will then return home for a matchup with the Rams of Fordham on Saturday, Nov. 10 for the team's home-opener. Exactly one week later, the Huskies will head north to Madison, Wisc. for a date against the Big 10's Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday, Nov. 17. Then, the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 23, HBU will face Wake Forest in Winston-Salem in an afternoon matchup.

"Any time you can play a Big 10 team, the likes of Wisconsin, and then a pair of ACC opponents in Wake Forest and Miami, those are going to really challenge our guys and get us ready for the Southland Conference," added Cottrell.

UTSA visits Sharp Gym Monday, Nov. 26, in a return trip after the Huskies played the Roadrunners in San Antonio last season. The Huskies return to the road for the next two, first visiting Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La. on Saturday, Dec. 1, and then heading to San Marcos for a return game against Texas State after the Bobcats came to Sharp Gym last year. Arlington Baptist visits Sharp Gym on Friday, Dec. 14 ahead of the Huskies trips to Samford in Birmingham, Ala. On Monday, Dec. 17, and Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. on Wednesday, Dec. 19. The Huskies' final non-conference game will be Saturday, Dec. 29, with a visit to Sharp by Dallas Christian.

"It's a very ambitious schedule for our team but we think it's also a schedule that prepares us for a really challenging, really tough Southland Conference," said Cottrell. "I feel like this year's conference race will be a really tight one with a lot of teams in our league replacing a lot of pieces on their rosters, but we're excited about what we have returning and the type of players that we have representing HBU and what we're going to be able to do in the conference race."

The SLC slate kicks off for the Huskies at home on Wednesday, Jan. 2, against Lamar before hitting the road for a pair in Louisiana with visits to New Orleans and Nicholls before returning to the Lone Star State and traveling to Abilene Christian for the longest road-stretch of the season. HBU then returns home on Saturday, Jan. 19, to take on Sam Houston State followed by Southeastern Louisiana four days later. The Huskies then head to Lake Charles, La. on Saturday, Jan. 26, to take on McNeese and then go to San Antonio to play Incarnate Word on Wednesday, Jan. 30.

February opens with a visit from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, Feb. 2, and then defending SLC tournament champion Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday, Feb. 6. The Huskies travel to Conway, Ark. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, before returning home for a pair of games against Nicholls and Northwestern State. Road games at Sam Houston State and Lamar follow before the final home dates on the schedule, Saturday, Mar. 2, against McNeese and then Senior Night on Wednesday, Mar. 6, against UIW. The Huskies will then close out the regular season at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on March 9.

The Southland Conference tournament will be held from Tuesday, Mar. 12, through Saturday, Mar. 16, at the Merrell Center in Katy.
