HOUSTON – The HBU women's soccer team, fresh off an exhilarating double-overtime win over Abilene Christian to open Southland Conference play, will look to stay unbeaten with a pair of matches against Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State this Friday and Sunday at Sorrels Field.
HBU (3-5-0, 1-0-0 SLC) was originally supposed to play a pair of games last weekend, first the SLC opener against Abilene Christian on Friday followed by the Huskies' final non-conference match of the season against Texas State, but due to inclement weather in the Houston area the Huskies played a single game against ACU on Saturday.

Alanis Guevara, which earned her SLC Goalkeeper of the Week honors, to earn the shutout as
Jessica Nevils came up with the game-winner in the 108
th minute. For Nevils, it was her second goal of the year with
Sabriah Spencer and
Bryce Reynolds credited with assists. As for Guevara, it was the fourth double-digit save performance of her career. The senior now ranks in the top-20 in the nation in both total saves, with 52, and saves per game, averaging 6.5.
SFA (3-3-0, 1-0-0 SLC) won its SLC opener last weekend, earning a 1-0 decision in Natchitoches, La. against Northwestern State. Sophomore Katelyn Termini scored the game-winner for the Ladyjacks against the Lady Demons for her team-leading second game-winning goal of the season. As a team, SFA has been out-scored 12-to-4 with all 12 of those goals allowed coming in three matches against Mississippi State, TCU and Texas. In goal, Maddie Talbot and Allyson Halliday have split time with Talbot sporting the more impressive number, including a 0.80 goals against average and a save percentage of .857.
Sam Houston State (1-6-1, 0-1-0 SLC) has dropped six-straight games heading into the weekend after opening the season with a 2-0 win over Utah State and a 1-1 draw at Louisiana. In their conference opener at Central Arkansas last weekend, the Bearkots fell 5-0. SHSU has been out-scored 18-to-5 for the season. Senior Lindsey Bienski leads the squad with two goals while Christina Hendershot, also a senior, is second in the SLC in total saves with 38 and her 4.75 saves per game ranks third in the league. The Bearkats visit Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday.
The Huskies are 3-7-0 all-time against SFA but have won the last two meetings, including a 1-0 victory in Nacogdoches last season. Against Sam Houston State, HBU holds a 4-5-3 record after defeating the Bearkats in Huntsville last season. Both games this weekend are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. starts with SFA visiting on Friday and Sam Houston State on Sunday.
HBU's home stand ends with the SHSU game with the Huskies hitting the road for the next three. Next weekend, HBU visits Nicholls on Friday, Sep. 28, and then Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday, Sep. 30.
