PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The HBU women's soccer team looks to rebound from a tough trip to Arizona on Friday, Aug. 31, evening at the PVAMU Soccer Complex against the Prairie View A&M Panthers before traveling to Dallas on Sunday, Sep. 2, to take on SMU.
Last weekend in Arizona, HBU (1-2-0) suffered a hard-luck 1-0 loss at Grand Canyon before falling to Pac-12 member Arizona on Sunday. Senior goalkeeper
Alanis Guevara totaled 12 saves in goal for the Huskies over the two matches.
Prairie View (1-2-0) is coming off a road win at Southland Conference foe Nicholls, downing the Colonels 1-0 on a golden goal by Jojo Bernal in the 95
th minute. Bernal owns the lone goal this season for the Panthers who were shutout by both Houston and McNeese in their other two games. Prairie View has been outscored 6-1 in their three games thus far.
SMU (2-2-1), meanwhile, is led by junior Allie Thornton who owns three goals on the season. In goal, Samantha Estrada and Catie Brown have split time but combined for a .815 save percentage and a goals against average of 1.18.Most recently, the Mustangs played to a 2-2 tie at TCU and are off until the matchup with the Huskies on Sunday.
HBU sports a 5-1-0 record all-time against Prairie View with the last meeting a 5-0 Husky win during the 2016 season. SMU owns a 4-0 all-time lead in the series, however, with all four of those meetings coming during the 1986 and 1987 seasons.
HBU will continue its non-conference schedule the following weekend, returning home for a date with North Texas at Sorrels Field on Friday, Sep. 7, before again returning to the road to face Texas in Austin on Sunday, Sep. 9.
