PHOENIX, Ariz. – Following a season-opening win at home the HBU women's soccer team will head out of state for a pair of matches in the Grand Canyon State against Grand Canyon on Friday and Pac-12 member Arizona on Sunday.

The Huskies (1-0-0) aim to build on a strong 3-1 win over Houston to open the season when they take on GCU (0-2-0) in its home-opener at GCU Stadium. HBU got a pair of goals from sophomore Avery Cortez and the game-winner off the foot of senior Sabriah Spencer in the opener with goalkeeper Alanis Guevara making five saves.

HBU and GCU met in Houston last season with the Huskies taking a 2-0 shutout win. The Lopes have opened the season with a pair of overtime losses on the road. First, they fell at Gonzaga by a score of 2-1 in double overtime and dropped a 1-0 overtime decision at Washington State. Sophomore Camryn Larson has scored the lone goal of the season for GCU while keeper Abby Burton has already recorded 22 saves in two matches.

Arizona (0-1) dropped its opener at home to visiting Albany, falling 1-0 on a 71st minute goal despite out-shooting the Great Danes 17-5. Freshman Emily Knous attempted three shots in the loss for Arizona, with two of those on goal, with junior Jill Aguilera also putting two shots on target. Goalkeeper Lainey Burdett made a pair of saves in the opener. Arizona visits UC Irvine on Thursday, Aug. 23, ahead of the match with the Huskies. This will be the first-ever meeting between HBU and the Wildcats.

After the road trip, the Huskies return to Texas and will travel to Prairie View, Texas to face Prairie View A&M on Friday, Aug. 31, evening at 7:00 p.m.
