FRISCO, Texas – Freshman forward David Caraher became the first HBU player to earn Southland Conference Freshman of the Year honors and was selected Third Team All-Southland Conference as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Caraher was voted the top freshman in the conference by the league's head coaches and sports information directors and was the lone first-year player voted onto the three all-conference teams.

In his inaugural campaign with the Huskies, Caraher averaged 16.2 points per game which is the highest scoring average for a freshman in the conference in more than a decade and currently ranks 11th among all freshmen in the country. In SLC play, the freshman upped his averages to 18.1 ppg (fourth in the conference) and 7.6 rpg (fifth in the conference). Caraher was one of just five players in the conference to record multiple 30-point games and one of just five to finish with at least 10 20-point games.
