HOUSTON – HBU women's basketball is headed to Thibodaux, Louisiana to take on Nicholls in Southland Conference women's basketball Saturday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. in David R. Stopher Gymnasium.
The Huskies' (6-15, 2-9 SLC) scoring is led by the fourth ranked scorer in the conference junior guard
Amanda Johnson, who is shooting 44.9 percent from the floor, averaging 16.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard
Sydney Carr puts up 8.3 points and pulls down 3.6 boards a game, but in conference she averages 10.2 points and 3.8 rebounds. Her field-goal percentage of 47.5 ranks as the fourth best in the conference. Sophomore forward
Lauren Calver contributes 8.6 points overall and 10.5 point in conference, junior center
Veronika Kirienko is averaging 5.9 points per game and leads the Huskies with 5.5 boards a game.
The Colonels (10-12, 5-6 SLC) have two players in double-digit scoring, which is led by Cassidy Barrios, who is shooting 43.6 percent from the field with 15.5 points and 9.7 boards. She ranks second in the conference in rebounding, steals (2.8 a game) and blocked shots (1.3 a game). Tykeria Williams averages 13.1 points and 3.1 rebounds a game, while Marina Lilly adds 7.7 points and 5.5 rebounds.
The last matchup between Nicholls and HBU was Jan. 6, 2018. The Colonels topped the Huskies 61-73 at Sharp Gym, making the all-time series record 2-4.
The Huskies will return to Sharp Gym to host Northwestern State Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m., followed by Sam Houston State Saturday, Feb.17 at 2 p.m. HBU will then visit Lamar Wednesday, Feb. 21 for a 7 p.m. tip off.
