HOUSTON – HBU women's basketball is back on the road for its final road game of the season to face McNeese in Southland Conference women's basketball at 1 p.m. Saturday in Burton Coliseum. The Legacy Sports Network broad cast with Lonnie King will be available at HBUHuskies.com.
Leading the Huskies (8-17, 4-11 SLC) is Junior guard
Amanda Johnson. She is shooting 42.7 percent from the field to average 15.1 points, which is ranked sixth in the conference, and 4.3 rebounds a game. Sophomore forward
Lauren Calver contributes 8.4 points and 4.6 boards a game. In conference play only she puts up 9.7 points and pulls down 5.5 boards a game. Junior center
Veronika Kirienko averages 5.9 points and leads the team by bringing down 5.5 rebounds a game. Other leaders include, junior center
Natalia Gwarda, who leads the conference in blocked shots (1.9) and sophomore guard
Britta Daub, who leads the team with 2.7 assists a game.
McNeese (11-15, 7-8 SLC) is led by Caitlin Davis, who is shooting 35.6 percent from the floor with 12.2 points and 4.1 rebounds a game. She is second in the conference with 5.8 assists a game and leads the team with 43 steals. Dede Sheppard averages 10.3 points and 3.2 rebounds. Mercedes Rogers adds 8.2 points and is seventh in the conference with 7.2 boards a game. Bre'Ashlee Jones helps out with 7.5 points and 7.1 boards a game, which also earned her a top 10 spot in the conference.
In the last meeting between the Huskies and Cowgirl, HBU fell 86-74 Sharp Gym back in January. Dede Sheppard lead all scorers for McNeese with 19 points. Johnson and sophomore guard
Sydney Carr produced a 16-point game, while Calver added 13 points for the Huskies. McNeese now lead the all-time series, 3-8.
HBU return home for its final two games, hosting Incarnate Word Wednesday Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in Sharp Gym and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday, March 3 at 2 p.m, in which the Huskies will be honoring senior
