BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The HBU men's basketball team embarks on its final non-conference road trip of the 2018-19 season on Monday when the Huskies visit the Pete Hanna Center on the campus of Samford University to face the Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Monday's game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ while the DNA Husky Sports Network broadcast with Lonnie King will be available at HBUHuskies.com.

After a tough three-game losing skid, the Huskies (3-5) broke out in a big way in their 107-70 win over Arlington Baptist inside Sharp Gym on Friday, Dec. 14, evening. The last time HBU reached the century mark was in a 102-86 win over Incarnate Word on Jan. 24, 2018 which was the first time the program scored at least 100 in a Southland Conference contest.

In that win, a number of HBU players set new career-best marks. Freshman Benjamin Uloko notched the first double-double of his career with 12 points and 10 rebounds while fellow freshman Qon Murphy had nine points, five rebounds and a pair of steals. Jackson Stent, a junior, set new highs of 12 points and six rebounds while senior Edward Hardt's eight rebounds marked his highest total in his time with the Huskies.

Sophomore Ian DuBose has continued his solid play, leading the Southland in scoring at 18.3 points per game. The guard is shooting 51.1 percent from the floor and is tied for sixth nationally among players averaging at least two three-point attempts per game, shooting at a 60 percent (15-of-25) clip from beyond the arc.

Samford (9-2) enters Monday's game with their two losses coming at the hands of a ranked Ohio State team and in an overtime loss to perennial Ohio Valley Conference power Belmont. Most recently, the Bulldogs defeated Morehead State 77-72 in overtime on Thursday, Dec. 13. Samford had four starters account 91 percent of their scoring in that game.

Ruben Guerrero, a redshirt senior who played his first three seasons at South Florida, leads the Bulldogs with 15 ppg and 8.2 rebounds per game. Guerrero sticks close to the basket and is 12th in the nation in field goal percentage, connecting on 66.4 percent of his shots. The Bulldogs also boast a trio of junior guards averaging double-figures in scoring. Josh Sharkey, the team's point guard, is averaging 14.7 ppg and dishing out six assists per game. Myron Gordon and Brandon Austin are adding 11.8 and 11.6 ppg, respectively.

HBU and Samford were familiar foes in the 1970's and 1980's when both were members of the Trans America Athletic Conference and the first ever meeting between the programs occurring as non-conference games during the 1970-71 season. The Huskies hold a 16-8 all-time record against the Bulldogs with HBU winning the last meeting between the two teams, a 79-62 home victory on Feb. 9, 1989.

Following the Huskies game against Samford on Monday the team will travel on to Coral Gables, Fla. for their second matchup against an ACC opponent this season, taking on Miami on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 6:00 p.m. Central time.
