HOUSTON – With finals wrapping up heading into the school's winter break, the HBU men's basketball team will take on visiting Arlington Baptist on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. inside Sharp Gym. Fans who can't make it to Sharp Gym can watch via the DNA Husky Sports Network broadcast with Lonnie King available at HBUHuskies.com.
HBU (2-5) is coming off a 90-80 loss at red-hot Texas State, a team that has won seven-straight games. Sophomore
Philip McKenzie pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds in that game with eight of those on the offensive end. McKenzie now leads the Southland Conference with 3.43 offensive boards per game, the 29
th-highest average in the nation. As a team, the Huskies sport the third-highest scoring offense (75.3 ppg) in the conference while facing the toughest schedule (according to ESPN) in the league to this point in the season.
Arlington Baptist (2-9) dropped its last game, an exhibition at Tarleton State, by a score of 81-59. Senior forward Kennedy Jones and freshman guard Tra Mallard led the Patriots with 10 points each in the loss. For the season, Jones is the team's top-scorer with an average of 13.5 ppg while his 7.2 rebounds per game are also the best on the squad. Jashun Petite, a senior guard, is the only other player on the team averaging double-figures in scoring at 10.1 ppg.
Last season, the Huskies picked up a 108-67 victory inside Sharp Gym of Arlington Baptist with seven different players scoring at least 10 points. HBU shot 53 percent from the floor in that game and out-rebounded the Patriots 52-26.
HBU returns to the road for the final two non-conference road games on the schedule beginning on Monday, Dec. 17, with a visit to Samford in Birmingham, Ala. before continuing on to Coral Gables, Fla. for a matchup against Miami on Wednesday, Dec. 19.
