HOUSTON- HBU Women's Basketball rolls past the Mustangs of the University of the Southwest Tuesday night in Sharp Gym.

The Huskies had six players score double digits led by junior guard Sophie Taylor who posted 21 points and added five rebounds. Sophomore Taylor Kollmorgen collected her fourth double-double on the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Amanda Johnson had another strong shooting performance putting up 18 points on 50% shooting. Junior guard Shannon Jones put up an extremely efficient showing scoring 15 points on 71.4% shooting adding six rebounds and sophomore guard Megan Valdez-Crader put up 11 points four rebounds six assists and three steals.

HBU (4-2) got off to another hot start on both ends of the floor. Sophie Taylor started the game off with a three-point basket and the Huskies never looked back. HBU jumped out to a 9-2 lead behind baskets from Kollmorgen and Jones before Aaliyah Wheatfall of the University of the Southwest made a basket in the paint to end the run. Things in the first quarter did not get better for the Mustangs as the Huskies did not allow another point until 31 seconds remained in the quarter.

The Huskies leading 28-8 after one slowed down a tick in the second compared to their first quarter performance only edging the Mustangs by one point. University of the Southwest's bench stepped up scoring 11 points in the quarter. HBU led at the half 47-26.

The third quarter was where the Huskies did most of their damage. HBU erupted for 38 points on 68.4% shooting and went a perfect 10-10 at the free throw line. Sophie Taylor scored 11 of her 21 in the third on 80% shooting. The Huskies had seven assists and six steals in the quarter stretching their lead to 85-47.

The pace slowed in the fourth quarter for both teams as they only combined for 25 points. HBU missed 5-6 free throws to close out the game only managing 15 points, but the Huskies were able to snag six steals in the quarter and the final came out to 100-57.

HBU returns to action next week when the travel to Denton, Texas to take on North Texas. The game will take place on Wednesday Dec. 5 at 11:30 a.m.
