BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar turned a sack into a touchdown just before halftime to halt HBU's momentum as the Cardinals went on to a 38-9 victory in Southland Conference football Saturday at Provost Umphrey Stadium.

Bailey Zappe completed 28-of-49 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown for the Huskies (1-9, 0-8 SLC). Freshman
Jerreth Sterns caught eight passes for 107 yards and completed a 21-yard pass to Zappe. Senior
David Racine made five catches for 44 yards and a touchdown, his fifth of the season to tie the school record for single-season receiving touchdowns, and extend his career record to eight. Sophomore
LaDarius Dickens rushed 12 times for 72 yards.

Langston Tunson recorded 15 tackles, while freshman safety

Jordan Hoy completed 6-of-9 passes for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns and rushed 12 times for 83 yards for Lamar (6-4, 5-3). Myles Wanza rushed 13 times for 88 yards and a touchdown, while Case Robinson caught three passes for 88 yards and a touchdown. Lane Taylor led the Cardinals with nine tackles and had an interception and Davon Jernigan made eight stops. Darien Wilson and Dedrick Garner each had two sacks.
Lamar took the opening kickoff and marched down the field for a 12-play, 80-yard drive capped by a five-yard touchdown run by Kirkland Banks. HBU looked to answer, driving down to the Cardinals' 7-yard line, but Zappe was intercepted by Garrison Mitchell, who returned it 76 yards to the Huskies' 16. Hoy immediately followed with a touchdown strike to Robinson for a 14-0 lead.
HBU got on the board on Zappe's 14-yard touchdown pass to Racine with 5:58 left, then the Huskies got a safety when
Caleb Johnson and
Raphael Lewis tackled Banks in the endzone. The Huskies went for it on fourth-and-11 from the Lamar 40 with 19 seconds left, but Zappe was sacked and fumbled, then Chaston Brooks picked it up and took it back 46 yards for a touchdown, giving Lamar a 21-9 lead at halftime.
Hoy found Robinson again for a 46-yard touchdown pass to extend the Cardinals' advantage to 28-9 with 3:29 remaining in the third quarter. Wanza added a 22-yard touchdown run with 13:55 to go in the game, then Elvin Martinez hit a 30-yard field goal with 5:46 left.
The Huskies wrap up the regular season by hosting Sam Houston State on Senior Day Saturday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at Husky Stadium.
