WBB: The Huskies Face TAMU-CC Saturday

Game time begins at 3 p.m. in American Bank Center.



HOUSTON – After getting a mid-week win on the road against Incarnate Word, HBU women's basketball continues Southland Conference action, battling Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday, Jan. 27 for a 5 p.m. game at American Bank Center. The Legacy Sports Network audio broadcast with Lonnie King will be available on HBUHuskies.com.

Junior guard Amanda Johnson is the lone player to start all 18 games for the Huskies (6-12, 2-6 SLC), averaging 16.3 points in 33.8 minutes. She is shooting 44.7 percent from the field and 34.0 percent (55-of-66) from the 3-point range. Sophomore forward Lauren Calver is shooting 47.0 percent from the field and is averaging 8.5 points overall and 11.1 points in conference play only, while sophomore guard Sydney Carr leads the team in field goal percentage (49.5 percent) and averages 7.9 points overall and 10.1 points in conference.  Junior Center Veronika Kirienko helps out with 6.4 points and leads the team with 5.5 boards per game.

The Islanders (10-8, 3-4 SLC) are led in scoring by Brittany Mbamalu, who is shooting 36.0 percent from the floor with 12.7 points a game. Emma Young shoots for 45.3 percent from the floor, 40.0 percent (14-of-35) from the 3-point line, adds 10.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest and leads the team with 47 assists. Dalesia Booth contributes 10.4 points and 5.8 boards a game, while leading the team with 26 blocks and 20 steals.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi leads the all-time series against HBU, 6-5, after each team took the win on their home turf. HBU won game one of the 2016-17 series, 56-51 on Feb. 4, while the Islanders seized game two on March 1, 68-51.

HBU will return to Sharp Gym to host undefeated Stephen F. Austin Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m., followed by a road trip to Conway, Arkansas to face Central Arkansas Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.
