HUNTSVILLE, Texas – For the second-straight match, senior Ellee Hall scored the goal and junior Alanis Guevara made nine saves as the HBU women's soccer team earned a 1-0 Southland Conference win on the road against Sam Houston State on Sunday afternoon at Pritchett Field.

HBU (3-4-1, 2-1-0 SLC) faced pressure early as Carlota Suarez Crespo, tied for the league lead with five goals heading into the match, put a shot on goal at the 1:41 mark but Guevara made the stop. Baylii Bieke was responsible for HBU's first shot attempt, putting a header on goal in the 11th minute but Anna Kaiser was there to deny the goal. Guevara stopped six Sam Houston State (4-5-0, 1-2-0 SLC) shots in the first half.

HBU came out on the offensive in the second period with a pair of shots by Megan Rickert and Gabby Rodriguez getting blocked by the SHSU back-line in the first three minutes. The next shot of the match would be the game-winner as Hall took a pass from Emily Harves, broke through the defense for a one-on-one with Kaiser and beat the Bearkat keeper to the right side of the net. The rest of the way, Guevara turned away three shots and the HBU defense kept the dangerous chances to a minimum for the Bearkats.

Hall's goal is her team-leading fifth on the season and the 20th of her career. That puts her alone in fifth on the HBU all-time goals list while her 52 career points are also fifth, just two away from fourth. Harves, a freshman, picked up her first collegiate assist on Hall's goal. In goal, Guevara improved to 2-4-1 for the year and raised her saves per match average to eight.

The Bearkats held a nine-to-four advantage in shots on goal and overall attempted 21 shots to the Huskies' eight. Bieke, Rickert, Casey Basso and Jennifer Gebhardt all played the full 90 minutes on the defensive end for the Huskies.

"I couldn't be more pleased with the two big road wins this weekend," stated head coach Misty Jones. "Today's game was all about just grinding out the win. It was a hot Sunday afternoon game on turf. We did not play well in the first half and talked about how we had to change the game. We did a great job of making the mentality change and putting in the work. Most shots we are facing are coming from distance. Alanis and the back line were good all weekend to keep the clean sheet."

The Huskies will open a three-game Southland Conference homestand beginning Friday, Sep. 29, when they host Nicholls at Sorrels Field with a 7:00 p.m. kick-off. Southeastern Louisiana will then visit the following Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
