LAKE CHARLES, La. – The HBU softball team dropped a non-conference road game against defending Southland Conference champion McNeese on Tuesday evening by a score of 8-0.
The Cowgirls (13-10) scoring started in the bottom of the first with three unearned runs thanks to a pair of HBU (7-6) errors. In the top half of the second, junior
Nicole Shedd led off with a double to center followed by a pair of walks to
Kassie James and
Megan Hiers to load the bases. Shedd was picked off of third before
Cecilia Bauer drew a walk to load the bases. Despite the baserunners, the Huskies were unable to push across a run.
McNeese pushed another run across in the third and held HBU scoreless, minimizing the damage of multiple Husky extra base hits. McNeese scored its final four runs in the bottom of the fifth as the Cowgirls picked up four hits, including a home run off the bat of Megan Holmes.
Shedd, Bauer and
Libby Brown all doubled for the Huskies in the loss as HBU finished with four hits.
Emily Mueller took the loss in the circle for the Huskies, falling to 3-4 on the season. The senior allowed eight runs, five earned, over four and two-thirds innings on eight hits with three strikeouts and five walks.
The Huskies travel to Thibodaux, La. to open their Southland slate against Nicholls on Friday, March 10, at 6:00 p.m. at the Colonel Softball Complex. The two teams will then play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 11, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
