HOUSTON – On Saturday evening the HBU men's basketball team will host a rematch against Incarnate Word in Southland Conference action inside Sharp Gym at 7:00 p.m. Lonnie King will be broadcasting live on the Legacy Sports Network available at HBUHuskies.com.
The Huskies (8-12, 4-6 SLC) are being led this season by senior
Colter Lasher who is averaging 14.8 points per game. Fellow senior
Reveal Chukwujekwu is adding 11.6 points and leads the squad with 7.5 rebounds per outing.
Braxton Bonds is leading the team in assists, with 60, and steals, with 38. His 1.9 steals per game average is good for sixth-best in the conference and 54
th in the nation. The sophomore guard is also averaging 8.6 points and 4.4 boards per contest.
In their last game, the Huskies fell on the road at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by a score of 90-79. Lasher led the way with 21 points while
Asa Cantwell and
Atif Russell both added 12 off the bench while Russell also matched a career-best with eight rebounds. HBU was hurt by turnovers in the game, committing 16 to the Islanders' nine and allowing 22 points off turnovers.
Incarnate Word (10-11, 5-5 SLC) enters Saturday's game having dropped its last home game to McNeese, 87-79. Jalin Hart and Simi Socks both eclipsed 20 points in the loss with 22 and 21, respectively. Shawn Johnson added 17 while Sam Burmeister had 10. Those four players accounted for all but nine of the Cardinals' total points.
Socks leads the Cardinals in scoring with 15.8 points per game, but Hart is averaging 15 while Johnson sits at 14.9. Incarnate Word has won four of the last five games, including a win over HBU on January 14 in San Antonio. That game was back-and-forth with 12 lead changes and 10 tied scores throughout. Ibarra finished 9-of-11 from the floor for 18 points to go with 12 rebounds. Senior
Alex Fountain added 16 off the bench for the Huskies. The Cardinals were led by Socks and Hart who finished with 22 and 23.
HBU will travel to Natchitoches, La. for its next game against Northwestern State on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. for the only meeting of the season between the Huskies and the Demons.
