Houston Christian University Athletics

The NCAA granted Russell a medical hardship for the 2015-16 season. He will have one season of eligibility remaining and will be able to play immediately for the Huskies as a graduate transfer in 2016-17.

Prior to HBU: Russell played four seasons at Pepperdine, but a shoulder injury limited him to only the first six games of his final season with the Waves … granted a medical hardship for the 2015-16 season … appeared in 92 career games, making 26 starts … averaged 4.0 points and 2.2 rebounds, averaging 14.8 minutes per game for his career … as a junior, appeared in all 32 games, including 22 starts, posting 5.6 points and 2.9 boards as the Waves went 18-14, the program’s first winning record since the 2004-05 season, and earned a College Basketball Invitational (CBI) berth, its first postseason appearance since 2001-02 … in six games as a senior, averaged 3.5 points ans 2.0 rebounds … The Waves once again went 18-14 and earned a berth in the CBI … played against HBU twice in both his freshman and sophomore seasons … started and scored seven points with two rebounds and two assists in 31 minutes  against the Huskies on Dec. 21, 2013 … graduated from Pepperdine with a bachelor’s degree in economics.
 
High School: Was a three-year letterwinner at Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas, for coach Dan Miller … earned All-District 19-5A honors as a junior and senior, garnering honorable mention as a sophomore … also named All-Region 3 as a senior … scored more than 1,000 career points, made a school-record 143 3-pointers and tied the school single-game records with 35 points and eight made 3-pointers against Houston Reagan during the 2010-11 season … averaged 15.2 points and 7.1 rebounds as a senior, 15.1 points and 5.1 rebounds as a junior and 7.1 points and 2.3 rebounds as a sophomore … led Seven Lakes to 19-5A District titles in 2010 and 2011 … earned academic all-district in 2010-11.
 
Personal: Son of Leonard and LaDonna Russell … has three siblings: Jeremy, Nichole and Nygal … pursuing a Master’s degree in international business at HBU.
