HOUSTON – This Saturday, the HBU men's basketball team looks to push its win streak to five games, welcoming the Randall Saints to Sharp Gym for the Huskies' final non-conference game of the 2016-17 season with tip-off at 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast via the Legacy Sports Network with Lonnie King providing the play-by-play. Fans can listen live at www.HBUHuskies.com.
The Huskies (12-12, 8-6 SLC) come into the game riding a four-game winning streak and have won five of the last six. During that four-game win streak, HBU has scored at least 84 points in each win. The last time an HBU team scored 80 points in four consecutive games came at the end of the 2007-08 season. The Huskies are 9-0 when scoring at least 80 points this season.
In their most recent win, an 88-77 home victory over Sam Houston State, the Huskies shot 46.8 percent (29-of-62) from the floor, including 9-of-18 from three-point range.
Braxton Bonds finished with 18 points, six rebounds, three assists, a pair of steals and a blocked shot while
Atif Russell provided a spark off the bench, scoring a season-high 18 points in just 18 minutes on the floor.
HBU forced Sam Houston State into 17 turnovers while committing 14 and held a 39-36 advantage on the boards. The Huskies have won the rebounding battle in 10 of their 14 Southland Conference games and have only been out-rebounded by one SLC opponent, Southeastern Louisiana.
Randall (12-9), the defending National Christian College Athletic Association Division II national champion, is currently ranked number one in the NCCAA Division II rankings. The Saints picked up a 123-118 overtime win the last time out, taking down Manhattan Christian on the road in overtime.
Trey Sneed leads the Saints with 17.3 points per game while shooting 49 percent from the floor. Three other Randall players are averaging double-digits for the season, including Xavier Hunter who is adding 13.2 per outing. Not counting an exhibition loss to Dallas Baptist, Randall enters Saturday's game on an eight-game winning streak. Earlier this season, the Saints lost to Sam Houston State, 119-81, on December 19.
The Huskies embark on their final road trip of the season next week, beginning with McNeese in Lake Charles, La. on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 7:00 p.m.
