HOUSTON – Six HBU players scored at least 10 points as the Huskies took down the Lamar Cardinals in Sharp Gym on Saturday night by a score of 94-87.

HBU (11-12, 7-6 SLC) got a pair of double-doubles from Josh Ibarra and Reveal Chukwujekwu while Colter Lasher led the scoring with 20. Ibarra finished with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting, 7-of-8 from the free throw line, and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Chukwujekwu posted a line of 15 points and 10 rebounds to go along with a pair of steals.

Lasher was 6-of-12 from the floor, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. Sophomore Braxton Bonds ended the night with 12 points, five assists, four steals and four rebounds while Alex Fountain added 13 points off the bench. Asa Cantwell put up 10 points and three assists.

Lamar (15-10, 7-5 SLC) was led by Nick Garth who knocked down 6-of-11 from three-point range and finished with 24 points and six assists. Josh Nzeakor had 14 for the Cardinals with Torey Noel and Zjori Bosha both adding 11 and Colton Weisbrod scoring 10.

After an early 4-4 tie, the Huskies scored seven-straight to gain an 11-4 advantage less than four minutes into the game but the Cardinals responded by scoring the next eight for a one point lead. At the 10:46 mark, Marcus Owens drained a three for Lamar that evened things up at 17-17. From that point on, the Huskies closed out the half by out-scoring the Cardinals 27-11 for a 44-28 halftime lead.

HBU kept it going at the start of the second half, pushing the lead as high as 21 after a pair of Chukwujekwu free throws and a jumper, making the score 51-30 with 17 minutes remaining. The Huskies kept their lead in the upper teens until a pair of Weisbrod free throws pulled Lamar with 13 with just under 10 minutes on the clock.

The Huskies had an answer and scored the next six points for a 19-point advantage with 7:48 to go but Lamar got hot shooting the ball, chipping away at the HBU lead with five threes over the final 7:12. A Garth three at the 5:14 mark pulled Lamar within 11 but HBU managed to push the lead back to 17 with just 2:35 left to play. Lamar finished out the game by going 7-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-2 from the line to pull within seven at the end.

It was another dominating effort for the Huskies on the glass, out-rebounding Lamar 36-22. HBU was able to hold Weisbrod, the league's leading rebounder with an average of nine per game, to just four rebounds. HBU shot 55.2 percent (16-of-29) in the first half and finished the game at 49.1 percent (26-of-55). The Cardinals finished 32-of-57 from the floor (56.1 percent) and were 72.4 percent (21-of-29) in the second period. HBU took advantage of 30 Lamar fouls by converting 35-of-44 from the charity stripe.

The Huskies remain at home for the next game, a rematch with Sam Houston State, in Sharp Gym at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16. That game will be broadcast live on Root Sports.
