WBB: Huskies Travel Crosstown to Take on Rice

Tipoff at 2 p.m. at Tudor Fieldhouse in Houston, Texas.



HOUSTON – HBU women's basketball battles crosstown rival, Rice, in non-conference women's basketball Saturday at Tudor Fieldhouse at 2 p.m. The Legacy Sports Network audio broadcast with Bill Cousins will be available on HBUHuskies.com.

Junior guard Amanda Johnson had an outstanding performance for HBU (1-1) in Wednesday evening's game against LeTourneau with a career-high in three categories: 32 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. She leads the Huskies with 16.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists a game. Junior center Veronika Kirienko also drained a career-high 15 points, averaging 11.0 points and 6.5 rebounds, while sophomore guard Britta Daub leads the team with 31.5 minutes a game, averaging 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists.  

After defeating Grand Canyon and Northern Arizona on the road, HBU will face Rice (2-0) in its season opener. Nicole Iademarco averages 22.0 points and 2.5 rebounds a game for the Owls, while Erica Ogwumike averages 14.5 points and 8.5 rebounds. Three other Owls average in double digits, including Olivia Ogwumike with 13.5, Wendy Knight with 12.0 and Gabrielle Stanton with 10.5 points a game.

HBU will travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma to take on Oral Roberts Saturday Nov. 25 at 12:30 p.m., before returning home to take on Jarvis Christian Wednesday Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.
