HOUSTON – HBU head baseball coach
Jared Moon announced the addition of six student-athletes who will join the Huskies for the 2019 season during the early signing period Friday.
Harrison Beethe is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound righthanded pitcher from Fort Worth and Arlington Heights High School. He spent one season at Ranger College, before transferring to North Iowa Area Community College.
Moon on Beethe: "Harrison has a lot of upside and will continue to develop into a quality Division I pitcher. He played summer ball in Oregon, where he showed some flashes of having outstanding stuff. He threw 40 innings this summer with 52 strikeouts and NIACC head coach Travis Hergert is really high on his projectability."
Cal Clark is a middle infielder from Fairfax, Iowa and Cedar Rapids Prairie High School. He plays at Kirkwood Community College in Iowa, where he hit .291 with three home runs, eight doubles and 21 RBIs last year for coach Todd Rima.
Moon on Clark: "Cal is a slick-fielding middle infielder, who can swing it well from the right side. He played second base last season, but is just as comfortable on the left side of the diamond. His versatility in the infield and his excellent glove made him very attractive to us."
Trevor Fonseca is a 5-foot-11, 185-pound outfielder from Vancouver, British Columbia, and West Vancouver High School. He plays at Cypress College, where he hit .286 with one home run and nine RBIs

for the Chargers last season.
Moon on Fonseca: "We are very excited to have signed Trevor. He has some speed and swings it well from the left side of the plate. We expect him to come in an make things happen for us, both offensively and defensively."
Trent Franson is a 5-foot-10, 185-pound second baseman from Houston and Lutheran South Academy. He played last season at TCU, where he hit .333 with a pair of RBIs for the Horned Frogs, before transferring to San Jacinto College this year.
Moon on Franson: "Trent was one of the Houston area's most-highly sought after high school athletes a few years ago and ended up at one of the premier programs in the country. We are very fortunate to have signed him, as he brings a lot to the table. He is a very talented infielder with good hands, quick feet, a strong arm and has some pop in his bat."
Brandon Bena is a 6-foot-2, 215-pound outfielder from Omaha, Nebraska, and Creighton Prep. He plays at Iowa Western Junior College, where he hit .311 with two home runs, seven doubles, a triple and 25 RBIs for coach Marc Rardin last year.
Moon on Bena: "Brandon is a kid who can come in and sit in the heart of the lineup. He has good plate discipline, doesn't strike out a lot and adds some power to the offense. He has a good arm and proj
ects to play one of the corners in the outfield."
The Huskies open the 2018 season with a three-game series at home against Western Michigan Feb. 16-18 at Husky Field.
