HOUSTON – The HBU men's basketball team is set to host Arlington Baptist in Sharp Gym this Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. for the Huskies 2017-18 home opener. The Huskies (0-1) dropped their season-opening game at Providence as part of the 2K Classic Benefitting Wounded Warrior Project on Friday, Nov. 10, by a score of 84-55. Freshman David Caraher led all players in that game with 19 points and seven rebounds in his collegiate debut. Senior
Josh Ibarra finished with eight points and five rebounds while Ian DuBose added seven points. Braxton Bonds totaled four points, six rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals in the loss.
Arlington Baptist (0-3) dropped its most recent game at Southwestern Assemblies of God by a score of 102-80. The Patriots have three players averaging double-figures in scoring and are led by sophomore Markel Semien. Semien comes in scoring 19 points per game and shooting over 40 percent from three. Eric Wood is averaging 17 points while Jashun Petite is adding 13.3 per outing. On the boards, 6-4 forward Kel Wallace is pulling down 7.6 rebounds per game while also adding more than seven points.
HBU owns a 5-0 all-time record against the Patriots, having hosted Arlington Baptist in each of the last five seasons. Last year, seniors
Colter Lasher and
Reveal Chukwujekwu led the way in a 103-77 win, combining for 49 points and 18 rebounds. Ibarra had 13 points and six rebounds while Bonds added eight points and seven assists.
The Huskies' stay at home is short-lived as they head out on a road trip that will wrap up their participation in the 2K Classic by playing three games in four days. HBU heads to Nashville, Tenn. to face Belmont on Saturday, Nov. 18, before taking on either Seattle or Detroit Mercy on Sunday, Nov. 19. HBU will then travel to Blacksburg, Va. to take on Virginia Tech on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
