HOUSTON – Returning home for the final three matches of the regular season, the HBU women's soccer team hosts conference leaders Lamar and McNeese on Friday, Oct. 20, and Sunday, Oct. 22, at Sorrels Field looking to gain ground in the standings and clinch a bid to the Southland Conference tournament.

HBU (6-5-2, 5-2-1 SLC) is 5-1-1 over its last seven matches and 3-0-2 at Sorrels Field on the season. The Huskies are currently in fourth place in the league standings, five points behind both Lamar (12-3-1, 7-1-0 SLC) and McNeese (11-3-1, 7-1-0 SLC). In order to clinch a spot in the SLC tournament, HBU needs to win or tie one of its three remaining matches or for Nicholls to lose or tie just one of its remaining three contests.

The Huskies' defense is allowing less than a goal per match in Southland play, out-scoring opponents 16-7 in eight SLC contests. At Sorrels Field in conference action, HBU has out-scored its opponents 11-2. In goal, junior Alanis Guevara is tied for first with four SLC shutouts and her 53 total saves are tops in the league.

Lamar is led by junior Kelso Peskin, a junior college transfer who is second in the conference with 21 points and her nine assists are the most by any player in the league. The Cardinals boast one of the top offenses in the Southland, totaling 34 goals in 16 matches for an average of 2.12 goals per match. Lauren Lovejoy, a senior, has played every minute in goal for the Cardinals and is tied for the league lead with six shutouts.

McNeese has been the stingiest defense in the conference to this point in the year, holding opponents to a total of five goals in 15 matches. Overall, the Cowgirls boast a 29-5 advantage in goals scored. Senior Savannah LaRicci leads the conference with 10 goals and is tied for second behind Lamar's Peskin with six assists. Freshman Emma Roccaforte is posted a .918 save percentage between the pipes en route to six shutouts and a goals against average of 0.38.

The Huskies hold the advantage in the all-time series against both of the weekend's opponents with an all-time record of 3-1-3 against Lamar and 4-3-2 against McNeese.

HBU will conclude the 2017 regular season on Friday, Oct. 27, when the Huskies host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Senior Night at Sorrels Field with kick-off set for 7:00 p.m.
