HOUSTON – Autumn Wildung appeared to end the game with a goal in the 110th minute but the an assistant referee signaled a foul on the HBU sophomore to negate the goal and the HBU women's soccer team played Southeastern Louisiana to a 2-2 tie on Sunday afternoon at Sorrels Field in a Southland Conference matchup.

HBU (4-4-2, 3-1-1 SLC) had the early offensive momentum, attempting four shots in the first 10 minutes but none of them were on goal. Sabriah Spencer put the first shot on goal in the match with a header off a corner kick that bounced right into Southeastern Louisiana (3-6-3, 1-2-2 SLC) goalkeeper Michaela Hawthorn's arms in the 11th minute. The Huskies got a free kick opponrtunity in the 24th minute with senior Jennifer Gebhardt lining up for the kick. Gebhardt sent he ball into the box and Baylii Bieke rose up and sent a header past Hawthorn to her left and into the bottom corner of the goal, putting HBU ahead 1-0.

The Huskies held onto that lead until the 35th minute when SLU earned a corner kick. Vanessa Arzaluz tapped the corner to Maggie Ramsey who gave it right back with Arzaluz dribbling right at the goal from the wing. She sent a shot at the goal that caromed off of Bieke and into the corner for an own goal charged to HBU, trying the score at 1-1.

The two teams went into the half tied and Wildung had a pair of early chances for the Huskies, with a header attempt in the 48th minute and another shot in the 52nd, but Hawthorn was there to stop both. At the 64:10 mark, Larissa Galvez Estrada got a look inside the 18-yard box that was blocked and ricocheted right back her and her second attempt was stopped by Husky keeper Alanis Guevara.

In the 76th minute, Wildung pressured Hawthorn who was taking her time getting a kick off from the 18-yard box and the goal kick caromed off Wildung high into the air and fell in the open net, just inside the right post, for Wildung's first career goal and a 2-1 HBU lead. The Lions had an answer, though, with Jessi Cooper making a run at the Husky goal all alone, pulling up to buy time for a runner and she found Maja Blanck in front of the net. Blanck's attempt was deflected by Guevara but it snuck by her and just creeped across the goal line to tie the game at 2-2.

In the first overtime, HBU started with possession and Ellee Hall quickly dribbled the defense and fired from about 20 yards out, forcing Hawthorn into a tough save in the first 10 seconds of the extra period. Cooper managed to put an attempt on goal in the 100th minute, but Guevara made the stop. Things remained knotted 2-2 in the second overtime until the final minute when a through ball got Wildung free, dribbling wide left past Hawthorn who came out to contest the sophomore, running alongside a Lion defender who appeared to trip before hitting a shot into an open net with just 20 seconds remaining. The head referee signaled goal and the end of the game but the assistant referee along the far sideline signaled a foul on Wildung resulting in no goal. The final 20 seconds ran off to end the match.

"It was tough," said head coach Misty Jones. "We talked about how the best minutes we had were probably the last 20 minutes, so the two overtime periods. We played okay, but we have to play better. Southeastern did a great job and answered every time we scored. We let them hang around and they fought hard for 110 minutes. It was a good back and forth game. Unfortunately for us, we didn't take care of business early on and then, when they didn't allow the late goal that really, obviously, hurt at the end of the day. I'm proud of the girls for the fight. We're still undefeated at home and we're still in a great place in the conference standings. It's a long season and we're performing well. We know we have to play better than we did today, but overall a good weekend for us."

Wildung led all players with four shots on goal as she scored her first of the season and her career. Bieke's goal was also the first of her career and Gebhardt's assist was her first of the season. Guevara finished with five saves in goal while allowing two.

The Huskies were out-shot 22-19 in the match while owning an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal. Hawthorn finished with six saves in goal for the Lions.

The Huskies will remain at home for a matchup with Incarnate Word on Friday, Oct. 6, at Sorrels Field at 7:00 p.m.
