NEW ORLEANS, La. – The HBU men's basketball team continues its current road swing in Southland Conference play with a trip to Louisiana to take on the New Orleans Privateers on Thursday evening at Lakefront Arena, tipping off at 7:00 p.m. All fans interested in catching the action live can listen in on the live audio broadcast with Lonnie King on the Legacy Sports Network available at HBUHuskies.com.
HBU (7-9, 3-3 SLC) has dropped its last two games, at home to Central Arkansas and most recently this past Saturday at Incarnate Word by a score of 82-77. In that loss, the game had 12 lead changes and 10 tied scores as the two teams battled back and forth for the lead. Junior center
Josh Ibarra posted his third-straight double-double, finishing with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Alex Fountain added a spark off the bench, connecting on 4-of-5 from three-point range and adding 16 for the Huskies.
Ibarra, now shooting 58 percent (76-of-131) for the season, is hitting 67.9 percent (36-of-53) of his shots in six Southland games so far. He's also averaging 9.3 rebounds per game in SLC play. Senior
Colter Lasher continues to lead the team in scoring with an average of 15.2 points per game, good for ninth in the conference. As a team, HBU continues to be among the nation's best on the offensive glass, averaging 16.75 offensive rebounds per game for the 16
th-best mark in the country.
New Orleans (9-7, 4-1 SLC) dropped its first conference game its last time out, falling at home to Sam Houston State, 70-68. Erik Thomas, the leading scorer in the conference, led all players in the game with 25 points. The Privateers shot 43.1 percent (22-of-51) in the game but were just 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from distance.
Thomas, a senior, leads all Southland Conference players with 20.6 points per game and is third in rebounding with 7.9. Senior Christavious Gill is second on the team, averaging 12.4 points while Nate Frye, who missed the early part of the season, has added 11.1 points per game off the bench over the last eight games.
HBU is 4-7 all-time against the Privateers and has won the last two meetings, including last season's one meeting in the Crescent City. In that game, the Huskies closed the game with a 13-6 run to take the 73-69 victory.
The Huskies will stay in Louisiana for their next game, heading across Lake Pontchartrain to Hammond, La. to face Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
