WBB: Rachel Arthur Signs with Germany’s Herner TC

Huskies guard is the fourth player to sign a pro contract in the last two seasons

HERNE, Germany – HBU senior guard Rachel Arthur signed a contract to play professional basketball with Herner TC in Germany.

"I'm super excited for this opportunity and thankful for all my family and friends who've supported me in my career and Herner TC," said Arthur.

Arthur becomes the fourth member of the women's basketball team to continue her playing career in the last two seasons, joining former standouts Erin McGarrachan, Shanice Steenholdt, and Tayler Jefferson.

"We are all delighted for Rachel that she gets to continue playing the game she loves so much," said HBU head coach Donna Finnie. "She has a great pro career ahead of her in Germany. It is a very good level of basketball and she will get the opportunity to continue to develop.

"Rachel is a family person through and through, and it is fantastic for her that she gets to play in the country her mother is from and that her extended family will be so close," continued Finnie. "It is always an incredible opportunity to see other cultures and countries and we are all thrilled that Rachel's hard work has led her to her dream of playing professionally."

Arthur is a four-year letterwinner for HBU. She is eighth all-time in scoring and second in the DI era with 1,221 points. On December 16 against Texas State, Arthur became only the 10th player to surpass 1,000 career points in program history. She is 13th all-time in three-point field-goal percentage and fifth in the DI era with a .304 mark. The Humble, Texas, native averaged 10.8 points and 2.4 rebounds per game in 2015-16 and scored a season-high 24 points against Nicholls on Jan. 7. Arthur dropped a career-best 25 points against Sam Houston State on Feb. 14, 2015.

Herner TC is a member of Damen Basketball Bundesliga (DBBL), the premier basketball league in Germany. TSV 1880 Wasserburg has won three-straight championships in the 12-team first division. Last season, Herner TC went 18-11.
