HOUSTON – The HBU beach volleyball team split a pair of matches to close out the inaugural HBU Beach Invitational, sweeping Lee College, 5-0, before being edged 3-2 by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the tournament finale at Third Coast Volleyball on Saturday afternoon.
"It was a good weekend for us overall," head coach
Trent Herman said. "We are continually excited about the improvement we are seeing each and every time out. For being in our first year, this team is still learning how to adapt to the elements, such as wind, which can change on you very quickly.
"It was also great to get some more matches under our belt in front of our fans, before we close out the season at LSU's (Battle on the Bayou), where we will see several ranked teams."

Aeriel Horton, all picked up straight-set wins for the Huskies (6-9) against Lee College (0-1).
Bailey Banks and
Melissa Fuchs won the No. 2 pairing in three sets, 21-10, 14-21, 15-9.
HBU's
Laura Fox and
Rachel Angeles defeated the Rebels in an exhibition matchup, 21-15, 21-8.
Against TAMU-CC (4-8), Huskies Armer and Durham again took the No. 4 pairing to open the match, winning 21-7, 11-21, 15-5. However, the Islanders answered with victories in the No. 5, No. 2 and No. 3 matchups to secure the win, before Wooten and Horton closed the match with a 24-22, 21-18 triumph in the No. 1 bout.
TAMU-CC won the tournament with a 3-0 record, while the HBU took runner-up honors with a 2-1 mark.
The Huskies will close their inaugural season participating in LSU's Battle on the Bayou across April 30-May 1 at Mango's Beach Volleyball Club in Baton Rouge.
