HOUSTON – HBU women's basketball hosts Incarnate Word in the regular season finale on Saturday, March 5 at noon from Sharp Gym.

The game will be the final home game for seniors Rachel Arthur, Ekemini Essien, Monet Neal, Meghan Shank, and Anna Strickland. A ceremony honoring the quintet will follow immediately after the game.

HBU leads the all-time series over UIW, 6-0, and defeated the Cardinals earlier this season, 62-61, in San Antonio on Feb. 18.

HBU (13-14 overall, 8-9 SLC) clinched its second-straight Southland Conference Tournament appearance following a 55-51 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday. It is the first season sweep over the Islanders in program history. Lisa Zderadicka scored the final 10 points for HBU and finished with a game-high 19 points, while Strickland scored 12 points and tied her career high of 20 rebounds. She registered a blocked shot which put her in sole possession of third place all-time with 118 career swats, passing Hall of Honor recipient Velencia Kuykendall. On the season, Strickland is fourth nationally in both rebounding (13.3 per game) and double-doubles (21). She is in the Top 5 in the conference rankings in field-goal percentage, blocks, and steals, and is the only non-guard ranked in the Top 10 in assists. On the season, HBU is sixth in the SLC in scoring offense (64.0) and fifth in scoring defense (64.2).

UIW (6-22, 3-14) has not won since Feb. 3 against Nicholls, a span of eight games. All of the Cardinals' conference wins have come on the road. Aricka Adams leads UIW with 12.5 points per game, followed by Brianna Williams with 11.4. Yvonne Maosa is tops with 6.0 rebounds per game and a 49.2 field-goal percentage. Quincy Baker has half of the team's 37 blocks. As a team, the Cardinals are last in scoring offense (57.6) and seventh in scoring defense (65.7).

Following Saturday, HBU will await who it will play in the opening round of the SLC Tournament on Thursday, March 10. Depending on the outcome, the Huskies will either be named the fifth seed (11 a.m. game) or sixth seed (1:30 p.m. game).
