DENTON, Texas – The HBU softball team was held to two hits in falling 3-0 to Nicholls in the Mean Green Spring Fling on Friday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium.
Seniors
Caitlin Gunn and
Shay Orsak each turned in one hit for the Huskies (8-4). Gunn finished 1-for-2, while Orsak turned in a 1-for-3 showing at the plate against the Colonels (12-7).
Senior
Laci Belovsky (5-2) took the loss in the circle, surrendering three runs (two earned) in a complete game effort. Belovsky surrendered eight hits, issuing one strikeout and one walk across 27 batters faced.
Nicholls struck early for two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Colonel Danielle Phillips singled and stole second to open the bottom frame, before a groundout and walk to Amanda Gianelloni put runners at the corners. Following a strikeout, Kasey Frederick singled to left field to drive in Phillips, as a throwing error on the play allowed Gianelloni to score on the play.
Nicholls added one more run in the sixth inning, as Colonel starter Megan Landry (7-3) kept the HBU at bay in tossing a two-hit shutout.
The Huskies will look to bounce back with a doubleheader on Saturday. HBU will face Nicholls at 10 a.m., before seeing UT Martin in the second game immediately to follow at noon.
