SB: Huskies Drop Two to McNeese State

HBU hosts Louisiana-Monroe on March 29 to close homestand.

HOUSTON – The HBU softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader, falling 8-0 and 11-0 in a five-inning run-rule to McNeese State on Friday afternoon at Husky Field.

Playing on Good Friday, the Huskies (10-15, 2-7 SLC) were held scoreless and outhit 22-5 across the two games, as the Cowgirls (22-6, 9-0 SLC) swept the series and improved to 9-0 in Southland Conference play.

Sophomore shortstop Libby Brown was the only HBU player to record a hit in both games, turning in 1-for-3 performance with a double in the first game and a 1-for-2 showing in the second. Huskies Laci Belovsky, Brooke Bushman and Shay Orsak, also hit safely with one single each.

HBU starters Shannon O'Connor (2-6) and Belovsky (6-8) both took losing decisions. O'Connor was tagged for seven runs (four earned) across four and two-thirds innings, before being lifted for junior right Emily Mueller in the first game. Belovsky surrendered 11 runs (all earned) across five innings in the series finale.

The Huskies will look to bounce back and close their four-game homestand on Tuesday, hosting Louisiana-Monroe in a 3 p.m. first pitch.
