Game NotesNACOGDOCHES, Texas – HBU women's basketball makes their final road trip of the regular season when they take on the Ladyjacks of Stephen F. Austin in a Southland Conference clash on ESPN3. First tip is scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. from the Johnson Coliseum.
In the third-to-last game of the regular season, HBU (12-13 overall, 7-8 SLC) sits in a tie for fifth place in the conference standings, while SFA (16-10, 10-5) is third. The top eight eligible teams make the tournament, held March 9-13 in Katy, Texas.
Saturday is the second meeting this season between the Huskies and Ladyjacks. SFA won in Sharp Gym, 64-50, and leads the all-time series, 8-1.
Anna Strickland posted her 20th double-double of the season and
Monet Neal led HBU with 15 points, but the Huskies lost to conference leaders Abilene Christian, 76-55, Wednesday in Sharp Gym. ACU led 21-6 after the first quarter and held HBU to 13 percent shooting in the frame.
Lisa Zderadicka came off the bench to score 11 points and tied the team high of four assists with Strickland. On the season, Strickland continues to lead the Southland - and is T-3rd nationally - in double-doubles and rebounding (13.4). Strickland is 3rd in the conference in blocks (1.6), 4th in field-goal percentage (46.9), T-5th in steals (2.2), T-9th in assists (3.0). As a team, HBU is T-5th in the SLC in scoring offense (64.8) and fifth in scoring defense (64.6).
SFA's 82-66 at Incarnate Word on Wednesday gave the Ladyjacks their ninth-consecutive win. SFA hasn't lost since Jan. 21 against Lamar. Taylor Ross is fourth in the conference in scoring (16.5) and has led the team in scoring in five of the last six games. Adrienne Lewis is the top rebounder, as she is T-17th in the SLC with a 5.9 average. Brentney Branch is the long ball threat, as her 40.0 percentage ranks her third in the SLC and she averages 2.4 three-pointers a game. As a team, the Ladyjacks are third in the conference in scoring offense (69.0) and fourth in scoring defense (62.7).
Following the contest, HBU is home the final two games: Thursday, March 3 at 5 p.m. against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on ESPN3 and Saturday, March 5 at noon against Incarnate Word on "Senior Day."
