NACOGDOCHES, Texas – SFA nailed 13-of-26 from behind the arc in an 86-49 victory over HBU in the Southland Conference women's basketball opener Saturday afternoon at William R. Johnson Coliseum.

Sydney Carr scored a career-high 12 points and made three steals for the Huskies (2-9, 0-1 SLC), while freshman forward
Taylor Kollmorgen scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds. Freshman guard
Sophie Taylor added eight points and sophomore forward
Brooklyn Moore posted a career-high seven boards for HBU.
Taylor Ross made 4-of-5 from long distance and led the Ladyjacks (10-2, 1-0) with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists. Brentney Branch hit 4-of-6 from deep to finish with 18 points and Stevi Parker chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds.
In addition to shooting 50 percent from 3-point range, SFA also shot 50 percent from the field, but only 51.7 percent (15-for-29) from the free-throw line. HBU was limited to 32.1 percent from the field, 18.2 percent (2-for-11) from long distance and shot 84.6 percent (11-for-13) from the stripe. The Ladyjacks outrebounded the Huskies, 41-35.
Branch hit three early 3-pointers, while scoring SFA's first 11 points of the game as it took a six-point lead, but Calver drove in for a pair of layups to get HBU back within two. The Ladyjacks used an 8-0 spurt to lead 22-11, until Kollmorgen's three-point play got the Huskies back within single digits by the end of the opening frame.
Branch hit another three, then two-out of three free throws to extend the Ladyjacks' lead to 34-20 midway through the second, but Kollmorgen converted another "and-one" and sophomore forward
Charlotte Hodges sank one-of-two free throws to make it a 10-point game. SFA ended the half on a 12-0 run, capped by Ross's 3-pointer off the glass at the buzzer to lead, 46-24, at the break.
Each team had five points through the first four minutes of the third, but the Ladyjacks made a pair of threes to lead 57-33. SFA took a 65-36 into the final period and led by as many as 36 down the stretch.
The Huskies return to action in their first league home game against Sam Houston State Monday at 7 p.m. in Sharp Gym.
