HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Southland Conference play tips off on Thursday, Dec. 29 with HBU heading to Johnson Coliseum in Huntsville to take on the Bearkats of Sam Houston State at 6:30 p.m. Fans can listen to the game live via the Legacy Sports Network audio broadcast with Lonnie King, available at HBUHuskies.com.

The Huskies (4-6) enter conference play having played the most difficult schedule in the nation, according to the NCAA's RPI reporting. In their last game, the Huskies took a 35-25 lead into the half at Northwestern but a sluggish second half resulted in a 72-63 loss. HBU was led by its seniors in the loss with the five seniors on the roster accounting for 51 of the team's 63 points.

Colter Lasher continues to pace HBU for the season, averaging 15.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. The senior is just 70 points away from 1,000 for his career and his 95 career three-pointers have him alone in 10th on the HBU all-time list. Senior Reveal Chukwujekwu leads the team with 6.6 rebounds per contest and is second with an average of 10.9 points. As a team, the Huskies are scoring 80.5 points per game, the 57th best mark in the country.

Sam Houston State (9-4) comes into the game with a perfect 7-0 mark on their home floor. In their most recent game, the Bearkats fell at Arkansas by a score of 90-56. Senior Dakarai Henderson was the lone Bearkat to reach double-figures in scoring with 13. SHSU shot 30.7 percent in the game and struggled from deep, connecting on just 3 of 23 three-point attempts.

Henderson is leading the Bearkats on the offensive end, scoring 11.6 per game while sophomore John Dewey III is dishing out five assists per contest. Overall, SHSU has five different players averaging at least nine points and the Bearkats are out-scoring their opponents by an average of nearly six points.

In the Southland Conference preseason poll, Sam Houston State was picked by the league's coaches to win the conference while HBU was picked fifth.

The Huskies will stay on the road, heading to Nacogdoches for a New Year's Eve tilt with Stephen F. Austin at 4:00 p.m.
