HOUSTON – After facing two Top 10 opponents, HBU women's basketball begins a three-game homestand, first hosting crosstown rival Rice Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sharp Gym.
The Huskies (0-2) are coming off losses on the road to No. 2/4 Baylor and No. 8/6 Texas. Sophomore guard
Amanda Johnson leads HBU with 10.0 points per game, hitting 6-of-16 from behind the arc. Freshman guard
Sophie Taylor leads the team with 26.0 minutes per game, averaging 7.5 points and leading the team with seven assists. Freshman forward
Taylor Kollmorgen leads the Huskies with 10 rebounds.
Rice (1-1) defeated Prairie View A&M in its season and home opener, before falling to LSU on the road. Shani Rainey averages 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game for the Owls, while Maya Hawkins averages 13.0 points, 6.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game. Kendall Ellig scored 11 points in 27 minutes against LSU in her only appearance in the two games.
The Owls lead the all-time series against the Huskies, 2-0, including a 75-42 in the last meeting on Nov. 16, 2011, at Tudor Fieldhouse.
HBU continues its homestand against Southwestern Assemblies of God Wednesday at 7 p.m., followed by Oral Roberts Saturday at 2 p.m.
