HOUSTON – HBU women's basketball will look to snap its two game losing streak Thursday when the Huskies host Southland Conference foe Nicholls at 7 p.m. from Sharp Gym.

Nicholls took a 2-1 series lead following a 70-58 victory over the Huskies Jan. 8, 2015, in Thibodaux, La. The Colonels have won the last two meetings after HBU won the inaugural meeting in January, 2014, in Thibodaux.

In a game that featured eight ties and eight lead changes, HBU (5-7 overall, 0-2 SLC) came out on the short end of a 71-64 result against McNeese State Jan. 4. It was the first time this season HBU lost a game when it led at halftime. HBU had three players in double figures, led by Monet Neal's 16 points. Anna Strickland posted her eighth double-double of the season - and the 15th of her HBU career - with 12 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Rachel Arthur followed with 13 points and a season-high three steals. On the season, Strickland leads the conference - and is T-6th in the nation - with 13.1 rebounds per game. She is T-9th in the SLC with 13.5 points per game, second with 1.7 blocked shots per contest, and fifth with 2.2 steals per game. As a team, HBU is shooting 40 percent from the floor compared to 41 percent for its opponents.

Nicholls (3-8, 1-0) opened conference play with a 69-59 win over Lamar, snapping a five-game losing streak in the process. Reigning SLC Player of the Week Marina Lilly posted a double-double of 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. She leads the team with 6.5 rebounds per game on the season. Hope Pawlowski is tops with 10.5 points per contest, 33 assists, and 32 steals. She and Cassidy Barrios are the top three-point threats with 47.4 and 35.3 marks, respectively. As a team, the Colonels are shooting 39 percent from the floor compared to 42 percent for their opponents.

Following Thursday's contest, HBU concludes its three-game home stand Saturday against Southeastern Louisiana at 4 p.m. before embarking on a four-game road swing beginning Wednesday, Jan. 13 at Central Arkansas.
