Anthony Odunsi recorded a career-high 27 points, as junior
Reveal Chukwujekwu (16) and senior
Jourdan Stickler (15), also turned in career scoring performances. The Huskies drained 10 3-pointers, the most since the 2013-14 season when the team hit 13 against Arlington Baptist.
Odunsi is the reigning
SLC Player of the Week after averaging 23 points, 4.5 rebounds and three assists, in leading HBU to a 2-0 record on the week with wins over Ecclesia (101-47) and Northwestern State (99-73). The native of Sugar Land, Texas, led all in scoring with 19 points against Ecclesia, before following up in a big way in the team's conference opener. At Northwestern State, Odunsi recorded a career-high 27 points, finishing 7-for-11 from the floor with a pair of hits from distance to compliment his second straight 11-for-12 showing at the free throw line. The team's win over the Demons marked the first conference-opening win for the Huskies as a member of the Southland.
On the season, Ibarra ranks second in the SLC in field goal percentage (.596) and tied for third in blocks (1.5 per game), while Odunsi sits seventh in both scoring (15.4 per game) and free throw percentage (.848). Odunsi leads the league with 27.0 points per game in conference play through one contest.
Two players providing early returns in their freshman seasons are
Isaiah Robinson and
Asa Cantwell. Both stack up well against other players in the SLC and lead all freshman in their respective categories. Robinson co-leads the league in blocks (2.5 per game), tied for second in the country among freshman, while Cantwell is eighth in the SLC in 3-point field goal percentage (.409) and leads HBU with 20 hits from distance.
The Cowboys are off to a 2-9 start (0-1 SLC) under head coach Dave Simmons with wins over Dillard (80-79) and LSU-Alexandria (77-72). McNeese is led offensively by junior Jamaya Burr's 14.6 points per game. The Cowboys lead the league with 5.2 blocks per game as a team.
Following Tuesday's tilt, the Huskies will continue their homestand with Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday in a 7 p.m. tip, before hosting Nicholls on Wednesday, Jan. 13.
