Live VideoGame NotesABILENE, Texas – HBU women's basketball looks to snap Southland Conference leader Abilene Christian's 12-game winning streak when the Huskies conclude their four-game road swing Wednesday at 7 p.m. from ACU's Moody Coliseum.
ACU leads the all-time series, 3-0, as the Wildcats swept the home-and-home series last season: 53-50 in Houston and 68-53 in Abilene.
Despite five players in double figures, HBU (8-9 overall, 3-4 SLC) could not overcome 24 turnovers in a 77-70 loss at Lamar on Saturday.
Rachel Arthur scored a team-high 20 points while
Anna Strickland posted her 13th double-double of the season - and 20th in her career - with 14 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. She continues to lead the SLC and is T-3rd nationally with 13.5 rebounds per game. She is also fifth nationally in double-doubles. Her 13.2 points per game puts her 16th in the conference, while she ranks T-2nd in blocked shots (1.8) and T-5th in steals (1.9).
Rachel Arthur and
Monet Neal are 20th and 21st, respectively, with 12.5 and 12.4 points per game. As a team, HBU is second in the SLC with 3.76 blocked shots per game. Both HBU and its opponents are shooting 40 percent from the floor.
ACU (16-2, 7-0) pushed its winning streak to 12 games following an 86-71 win at Incarnate Word on Saturday. The Wildcats, ranked 21st in the country in the mid-major poll, are led by three-time SLC Player of the Week Alexis Mason with 16.6 points per game, which is good for second in the conference. Sydney Shelstead is also in the Top 10 (T-6th) with 15.2 points per contest. Shelstead and Lizzy Dimba each have 7.6 rebounds per game to lead ACU. The Wildcats are first in the SLC in scoring offense (77.1) and field-goal percentage (42.6), and second in both scoring defense (60.8) and turnover margin (+3.61). As a team, ACU is shooting 43 percent from the floor compared to 37 percent for its opponents.
Following Wednesday's contest, HBU returns home to face Sam Houston State on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 4 p.m. in the opener of a doubleheader in Sharp Gym.
