Bailey Banks and
Jessica Wooten all recorded double-double performances in a 3-2 (15-25, 25-20, 17-25, 28-26, 16-18) loss to South Alabama at the Jaguar Invitational on Friday night inside Jag Gym.
Tied 15-15 in the fifth set, Wooten gave the Huskies (5-4) the edge on a kill, but two kills by the Jaguars (3-4) and an attack error closed the match in favor of South Alabama.
Armer recorded her second double-double effort of the season, turning in season-highs with 41 assists and 13 digs.
Wooten turned in her fourth consecutive (fifth overall) double-double in a 16-dig, 16-kill performance, both season-highs, while Banks picked up her first with 15 kills and a career-high 14 digs.
The trio of Armer, Banks and Wooten were joined by junior
Ashlee Vann and sophomore
Hailey Erickson in recording double-figure digs. Vann recorded a career-high 15 digs. Erickson rounded out the back row for HBU with 11 digs.
The Huskies were outhit .378-.143 in the opening set, falling 25-15, before Banks and Wooten each recorded five kills in the second set to even match in a 25-20 victory.
South Alabama limited the HBU attack to a .029 attack percentage to take the third set 25-17. However, Wooten (7) and senior
Allison Doerpinghaus (4) combined for 11 kills in the fourth set to take a 28-26 triumph and force a fifth and deciding set.
The Huskies will close the Jaguar Invitational on Saturday, facing Samford (10:30 a.m.) and McNeese State (4 p.m.). HBU's match against McNeese is a non-conference meeting and will not count towards either team's Southland Conference record.
