KATY, Texas – Eighth-seed HBU women's basketball will make their first appearance in the Southland Conference Tournament when the Huskies take on fifth-seed McNeese State Thursday, March 12 at 11 am from the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.

There will be a fan bus for HBU students and they are urged to contact Lamar Thomas at thomasll@hbu.edu or the HBU ticket office at (281) 649-3143 to reserve your spot. The bus will depart in front of the Brown Student Center at 10:20 am Thursday. Tickets are $15 and fans are urged to contact the HBU ticket office at (281) 649-3143 or at the office on the second floor of the Bradshaw Fitness Center to purchase your ticket.

McNeese State leads the all-time series, 4-1, and squeaked by the Huskies in the only meeting this season, 60-57, Jan. 5 in Lake Charles, La. Shanice Steenholdt posted game highs of 19 points and 15 rebounds in the losing effort, while Rachel Arthur and Meghan Shank scored 14 and 12 points, respectively. HBU's victory came in Sharp Gym March 8, 2014, 77-67.

In the Huskies' last game, HBU (12-17 overall, 5-12 SLC) got a career high in points from Erin McGarrachan in an 81-71 win at Incarnate Word Saturday.
 
McGarrachan scored 22 of her 27 points in the first half, as she shot 11-of-14 from the floor, 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, and made all three free throw attempts. She also tied a season-high with 11 rebounds to earn her second double-double of the season. She and All-Defensive Team honoree, Anna Strickland, combined for five of the Huskies' six blocks on the day.
 
On the season, Arthur is 23rd in the conference with 10.8 points per game, followed closely by Tayler Jefferson (26th; 10.5). Jefferson is eighth with 3.4 assists per contest. Strickland is second in the conference and 68th nationally with 1.9 blocked shots per game and is seventh with 8.1 rebounds per contest.
 
As a team, HBU leads the conference with a 44.7 field-goal percentage, a 29.4 three-point percentage defense, and 4.93 blocked shots per game. The Huskies are second with a +5.1 rebounding margin.

McNeese State (17-12, 11-7) ended the regular season with a 72-68 home win over Central Arkansas Saturday.
 
First Team All-Conference honoree, Allison Baggett, is third in the conference with 16.4 points per game. Baggett leads the conference with an 88.8 free-throw percentage. Third Team SLC recipient, Jayln Johnson, is 10th with 13.2 points per game and is second with 5.5 assists per contest. Talisa Boyd is the top rebounder, as her 7.5 boards per game rank her ninth, while Frederica Haywood is 11th with 7.0.
 
As a team, the Cowgirls are second in the conference averaging 69.2 points per game.

The winner of the game squares off against fourth-seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Friday at 11 am.
