HOUSTON – HBU women's basketball returns home to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7 pm in Sharp Gym.

TAMUCC leads the all-time series, 4-0, and won the home-and-home series last season. The Islanders currently sit tied for fourth in the Southland Conference standings.

Tayler Jefferson scored a team-high 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting, while Anna Strickland dropped a career-high 20 points, but HBU (8-12 overall, 2-7 SLC) lost at Sam Houston State, 74-67, Saturday. Jefferson hit two 3-pointers and also had three rebounds and six assists for the Huskies. Strickland nearly recorded her fourth double-double of the season as she grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Meghan Shank tied her career high of five rebounds. Ekemini Essien hit her first-collegiate three-pointer and tied her career high of six rebounds. The Huskies converted a season-low 11 turnovers.
 
On the season, Shanice Steenholdt continues to be the only player in the Southland Conference to average a double-double, as she leads the conference with 10.3 rebounds per game and is second with 17.8 points per contest. Jefferson is 24th with 10.7 points per game, seventh with an 81.0 free-throw percentage, and sixth with 3.6 assists per game. Jefferson also leads the minutes for the Huskies, as she is 15th in the conference averaging 30.1 minutes per contest. Strickland is second in the conference with 1.8 blocked shots per game, followed by Steenholdt with 1.6. Both players follow SFA's Porsha Roberts (2.4).
 
As a team, HBU shoots a league-best 45.5 from the floor, pulls down 42.3 rebounds per game, and average 5.15 blocked shots a contest.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's (10-10 overall, 6-3 SLC) four-game winning streak was snapped by host Stephen F. Austin, 64-55, Saturday.
 
Shay Weaver scored a team-high 21 points and leads the Islanders on the season with 16.8 points per game. Olivia Fouty and Camesha Davis average 12.8 and 10.0 points per game, respectively. On the glass, Fouty has pulled down a team-best 9.3 rebounds per game.
 
As a team, the Islanders lead the conference with a 36.9 field-goal percentage defense.

Following the contest, HBU hits the road to play at Stephen F. Austin Saturday at 4 pm. It is the opener of a doubleheader with the men's team.
