CONWAY, Ark. – Still on the emotional high of advancing on penalty kicks 24 hours ago, third-seed Sam Houston State scored two first-half goals to knock second-seed HBU out of the Southland Conference Tournament, 2-0, Friday evening from the Bill Stephens Soccer Complex.

HBU ends its season with an overall record of 10-6-1. The Huskies were led by senior midfielder Rebekah Tovar, junior midfielder Allison Abendschein, and freshman forward Jessa LeBlanc with three shots apiece. Freshman Alanis Guevara took the loss in goal as she made three saves. The match was the first time HBU was shut out since a 0-0 double overtime tie at UT Rio Grande Valley on Sept. 13.

Allie Johnson scored both goals for SHSU (10-6-4), as she led the Bearkats with three shots and two shots on goal. Kylie Hambleton stopped six shots between the pipes.
Johnson gave the Bearkats a lead they would not relinquish in the 20th minute, as she scored on a penalty kick. Five minutes later, she struck again with a header off a corner kick attempt by Mariah Titus for a 2-0 SHSU lead.

In the 54th minute, Autumn Wildung's shot attempt was blocked, resulting in a Huskies' corner kick. HBU would have three corner opportunities in a span of three minutes, but could not get anything across.

HBU outshot the Bearkats, 15-12, in the match and won the corner kick category, 5-4.

HBU ends its season with its second-straight appearance to the Southland Conference Tournament and the number two seed was the highest for the Huskies in the Southland era.
