WSOC: Spencer’s Golden Goal Gives HBU 2-1 Win

Junior forward Ellee Hall has a three-point match

CONWAY, Ark. – Freshman forward Sabriah Spencer's goal 2:45 into the first overtime gave HBU a hard-fought 2-1 win over Central Arkansas Friday night at the Bill Stephens Soccer/Track Complex.

"I am proud of the girls for never giving up and finding a way to win on the road," said HBU head coach Misty Jones.

Spencer scored her team-leading eighth goal and fifth game winner of the season for HBU (7-4-1 overall, 5-2-0 SLC). Ellee Hall registered her first three-point game of her career, scoring the game's first goal and assisting on the game winner. Alanis Guevara stopped a career-high nine shots en route to her third win of the season.

Ashley Smith led UCA (6-8-1, 3-3-1) with a goal and three shots on target. Anna Hughes took the loss in goal as she made two saves.

Neither team could get the upper hand in the opening half. Guevara made three saves in the first 11 minutes, as she stopped five shots total in the half. UCA had all eight of the half's corner kicks.

Five minutes into the second half, Hall gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead on an individual effort, as she found a loose ball near the goal line and kicked it into the back of the net.

The Huskies kept the offensive pressure, with a scoring attempt by Spencer and a corner kick, but the Bears diverted the danger and scored the equalizer in the 59th minute off a corner. Shelby Wilson took the set piece and Smith headed the ball past Guevara.

Rebekah Tovar shot wide 26 seconds to Spencer's heroics. Hall passed to Spencer, who scored from 25 yards out.

UCA outshot HBU, 15-13, in the match and held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.

HBU closes the road trip at Northwestern State Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
