NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Despite outhitting Stephen F. Austin .233-.187 and holding a 59-52 advantage in kills, the HBU volleyball team fell 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 24-26, 26-28) on Saturday afternoon inside Shelton Gym.
Sophomores
Bailey Banks and
Blair Gillard paced the attack for the Huskies (9-11, 2-4 SLC), each turning in 15 kills, as the offensive performance marked a career-high for Gillard. Banks also finished with 12 digs against the Ladyjacks (13-9, 5-1 SLC) to pick up her fifth double-double of the season. Junior middle blocker

Kayla Armer amassed a season-best 49 assists, adding nine digs, while junior outside hitter
Melissa Fuchs lead HBU on the back row with 16 digs.
Senior middle blocker
Allison Doerpinghaus tied her season-high with seven blocks, as the Huskies finished with 12 total as a team.
SFA outhit HBU .407-.303 in the opening set to take a 25-20 victory, but the Huskies responded with a 25-22 win of their own in set two, holding the Ladyjacks to a -.059 efficiency, to even the match.
Over the final two sets, both teams drew even 19 times and traded the lead on seven different occasions, before SFA was able to claim 26-24 and 28-26 edges to close the match, 3-1.
HBU will be back in action with two home matches next week. The Huskies host Abilene Christian on Thursday, Oct. 15, before welcoming Incarnate Word to Sharp Gym on Saturday, Oct. 17.
