HUNTSVILLE, Texas – HBU will look to get back to its winning ways when the Huskies play at Sam Houston State Saturday, Jan. 31 at 2 pm from Johnson Coliseum. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

HBU leads the all-time series, 5-2, and won last season's only meeting between the two schools:  a 63-62 nail-biter in Huntsville Feb. 1. A steal and two free throws by Tayler Jefferson with five seconds remaining proved to be the difference.

Visting Abilene Christian closed the game on a 23-3 run in the final nine-and-a-half minutes to erase a 14-point deficit and defeat HBU (8-11 overall, 2-6 SLC), 53-50, Thursday night in Sharp Gym.

Monet Neal scored a team-high nine points, as she pulled down 13 rebounds. Anna Strickland scored six points and recorded a game-high 17 rebounds - one shy of her career high. Ashleigh Nwanguma had six points, five boards, and two blocks. Ekemini Essien tied her career high of three steals.

On the season, Shanice Steenholdt continues to lead the Southland Conference with 10.3 rebounds per game and is second with 17.8 points per contest. Jefferson is 27th in the conference with 10.1 points per game and sixth with 3.6 assists per contest. Strickland is sixth with 8.1 boards per game and second with 1.8 blocked shots per game (SFA's Porsha Roberts averages 2.4).

As a team, HBU shoots a conference-best 45.8 from the floor and is second with a 38.1 opponent field-goal percentage. The Huskies block a conference-best 5.26 shots per game.

Sam Houston State (5-14 overall, 4-5 SLC) dropped an 87-68 decision to visiting Lamar Thursday night. The SLC's leading scorer, and the reigning conference player of the week, Shernise Robertson, scored a game-high 29 points in the loss.

Robertson averages 18.8 points per game and also leads the team with 41 steals. Taylor Dorsey averages 12.4 points per contest. Saundra Guillory has pulled down a team-best 6.4 rebounds, while Morghen Day has dished out 54 assists.

Following the contest, HBU hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi next Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7 pm.
